The Great British Bake Off has to be one of my favourite programmes. There are just so many things to love, contestants flapping about pastry, Mary & Paul looking for soggy bottoms, Mel & Sue with lots of baking related metaphors and random shots of squirrels! What more could you want?
So this week, the Hubster & I have been glued to The Great Comic Relief Bake Off, like the normal series but with the addition of celebrities and all in aid of Comic Relief.
One of the technical bakes was Mary Berry’s Bakewell Tart, which all the contestants did a pretty good job off. So ever since it was featured on the programme, the Hubster has been requesting that I bake one. It was a fairly easy but time consuming recipe, and my first time blind baking.
You can find the recipe here and you can also get the booklet from Sainsbury’s.
My pastry tin was a little too big, so that’s why the filling was a little shallow. The Hubster also said less flaked almonds next time, but that’s personal taste (he has already chomped a second slice!). Most importantly, NO soggy bottom, hurrah!
